we are not alone (2008)

buddha’s lightbulb  and music of the spheres (in collaboration with Wesley Mulvin)

Group exhibition curated by: Jo Cook

Open Space Gallery, Victoria, BC, Canada

And thus you too, my dear, see magnetic man while he is still bound to the body and thus to the world of the senses, emerging with extended antennae into another world of which he will be your witness.

Justinus Kerner, Die Seherin von Prevorst, 1829

buddha’s lightbulb (stereo speaker placement) and music of the spheres (4 stereo speaker installation with sculpture) were two installations created in collaboration with Wesley Mulvin for this group exhibition.

we are not alone is a multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach to installation that is evocative rather than instructive. Six artists, Emily Goodden, Susan Hawkins, leannej, Wesley Mulvin, my name is scot, and Frances Zorn created a space to accommodate shifting relationships between diverse works where the non-linear, non-unified nature of experience is acknowledged. Whether as a fragment or a fully-formed story, narrative is inherent in the configuration of sculpture, music, text, and still and moving images the artists presented.

In “Alphaville” an ambigous microsociety/family is elementary symbol of social system of power education. This social core carries out precautionary measures – such as hypervigilation, self-training to stay there no matter what happens – which exclude all mistakes and therefore is bound to fail. A closed tight unit, whose purpose is permanent self-perpetuation, does not tolerate any accident. Performed at the Torino Contemporeana (Italy) and Unidram (Germany) 2007.
